Polymer clay is a synthetic modelling material made from a plastic polymer base called polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Before it is oven-cured, polymer clay remains highly malleable and can be shaped and reshaped multiple times without deteriorating. When stored away from direct sunlight and excessive heat, it can last for years.

In this session, participants will learn how to use polymer clay to create canes. Polymer clay caning is a technique used to produce detailed, two-dimensional designs that run through a three-dimensional rod, allowing identical slices to be cut for jewellery, beads, and decorative elements. The process involves layering, shaping, and reducing coloured clay into patterns such as flowers, stripes, or geometric designs.

Common techniques include building the cane, reducing it (compressing evenly from the centre), and slicing with a sharp blade. Using these methods, participants will create stunning miniature plants.
