Led by: Shailna Wadhwa This course introduces students to the art and craft of relief carving in wood, where images emerge from a flat surface through controlled depth and texture. Students will learn essential carving techniques, safe tool use, and design principles specific to low and high relief. Emphasis is placed on understanding wood grain, planning a composition, and developing form through progressive carving stages.

Fundamental carving techniques and tool safety, including proper handling of chisels and gouges, sharpening basics, and safe working practices.

Design and depth development in relief, with attention to composition, wood grain, and creating visual dimension through low and high relief.

Surface refinement and finishing methods to enhance and protect the carved work.
